After studying structures using Google Earth then testing out ideas in Toca Builders, first graders are ready to start an engineering challenge! The Task:  Build a perch for Harry (a large pompom) so he can more easily see around the classroom. Materials:  2 index cards, popsicle stick, 12 pipe cleaners, 2 cupcake liners, masking tape, foil. Groups of students used the design process and collaboration to begin building!
